About the artist

Joël Andrianomearisoa grew up in Madagascar and studied at the Special School of Architecture outside Paris. He works in many different materials including paper, textiles, wood, mineral or found objects. He said he is always dealing with “this idea of duality, between light and darkness, passion and fragility […] the space between us.”

One of his best-known works is the installation he did in 2014, Perfection, the Grave of our Own Existence. His work has been shown at the 2019 Venice Biennale, the Smithsonian, the Pompidou Center, and other European museums. Andrianomearisoa won the Audemars Piguet Award at ARCOmadrid in 2016. He currently lives between Paris and Madagascar.
